Matthew had his 1st sports day in school last Thursday. He didn't tell us what his race was about and was quite excited that we were all going there to support him. His class sports uniform was a white tee with red trimmings and red shorts. Cute! We were late that morning, because he woke up late and was whining. When we were there, the kids were all assembled and the sports day started with a march-past.
Everybody had to wait for their turn. The youngest, pre-nursery class (i.e. Matthew's class), were very co-operative and sat around, watching the event and waited for their turn.
When it was finally their turn, the kids were all getting frustrated, all couldn't wait to run. Matthew and a few other kids were obviously the older kids in the class and could complete the race without any help from the teachers. All the kids got a present, of course.
After the sports day, the kids were given ice-cream. Matthew didn't want to follow me, but wanted to take the school bus instead. While waiting, I managed to talk to his form teacher. She said that Matthew is very independent and wants to do everything on his own. Socially, he has improved and learned to share and play with his friends. His eye-hand coordination has also improved tremendously (now he can write). In whole, his development is termed "age-appropriate". :)
