Last Friday morning, I made a last minute decision on the spot and sent Jo to childcare that very afternoon. She liked the place so much and so focus on playing with toys that she ignored me when I said bye. I called childcare and learned that when she realised I was no longer around, she cried till she vomitted. The teachers cleaned her up, changed her and patted her to sleep. She cried when she woke, refused to eat or drink anything except her water bottle. She insisted Lao Shi carried her the whole while. She cried complaining when I went to pick her up.
Yesterday was her second day. I rushed back from office and sent her to childcare. She cried and insisted that I put on her shoes after I took them off to place on the rack. Gave her milk and patted her on her little cot, she cried when she couldn't see me around. so poor thing, no yao yao to sleep, no pacy to sleep, in a new place, so Lao Shi and I agreed that she should at least have her pacy for now, and they will slowly wean her off. I called Teacher Ann and learned that she had woken up a little cranky, but quite ok. She had some cake and barley. On her own accord, she went to play with her new friends. The teachers were very encouraged.
Today, my parents brought her to childcare with Matthew. Teacher Ann took her temperature at 37.4oC. There had been 2 cases of HFMD, so as a pre-caution, I thought better for her to stay at Por Por's house. The two kids were full-day kids in N1. One of them only came down with a fever yesterday afternoon after nap. There was a high chance of infection. We will have to monitor over the next few days and if she's infected, we will be able to see by end of the week.
On the whole, I feel that it was a good idea to start Jo in the afternoon, as there are less kids and the teachers are able to give her more attention, especially she is the youngest there. She's happy as far as I can see. She wants to go to school when we ask her. :)
