We are sick!

We were sick for the past two weeks. Really bad flu bug. It started on a Sunday night (10/06/07), Matthew coming down with a fever, coughing and running nose. A fever which refused to go away. Our paediatrician Dr Ong was away on a holiday; her covering PD is in Woodlands, which is too far for us. The nearest PD at Sunset Way was also on holiday. So we saw Dr Chang in the same building as Dr Ong instead.

Matthew likes Dr Chang because Dr Chang gave Matthew a fruitella sweet. okie, he got bribed.

The fever came and go, hovering around 38.5oC. It got so bad on Wednesday that it frightened the grandparents and both Mike and I got angry phone calls. I called Dr Chang who said that she did not need to see him, just pop by at the clinic to pick up antibiotics. and guess what, our boy REFUSED to take the antibiotics. Luckily the fever started to "disappear" the next day. Funny thing was he was ok in the day, only fever at night.

Then Jo started coughing and running nose. So on Thursday, we bundled both kids to Dr Chang. Jo had her fair share of medicine.

Thank goodness, Dr Ong was back and after communicating with her, we brought Jo to see her. Jo had very bad stuffy nose. In addition to the medicine she was taking, nose drops.

Come Monday, Matthew was all well and was back in school. Still coughing, but no more fever. "It's the 1-week-fever," said Dr Ong, "I saw many cases before I went holiday."

Jo was still coughing.

One week after seeing Dr Ong, last Saturday, both kids went to see her. Matthew was given Bambee syrup (what a name) and Dhatifen (Dr Ong called this a lung tonic). Joanne had to be "neubilised" (I'm not going to elaborate, so painful to recall that experience) and given Ventolin, Rhinathiol and Chlomine and more nose drops.

2 days later, Matthew seems to be better. Jo is coughing less, but still stuck with a stuffy nose. I decided to go get the nasal spray (Streimar) from Dr Ong. It's supposed to be better, I really hope so.. so that Jo can drink better and sleep better.

Kids aside. I fell sick last Friday and went to see a GP. Tonsillitis was what I got, so I had to take antibiotics (Zinnat). Then I woke up on Sunday morning with a red left eye! How lucky can I get! Conjunctivitis. I went to see the same GP and I was her 3rd case that morning! Luckily I saw her early. The eye drops are very strong and the redness disappeared by the afternoon.

So all in all, we spent $360 on doctors and medicines. Hopefully that's the end of all these. po4 cai1 xiao1 zai1.
