Update on Matthew's hearing

We brought Matthew for his ENT review at NUH on 29 May 2008. He was co-operative and went through the whole Play-Audio Test. In the test, he put on headphones and various sounds and tones (different frequencies, pitches and decibels) were played and he was to place the jigsaw pieces in the correct position when he hear each sound. He was game and did well.

From the test, the specialist and audiologist confirmed that his left middle and inner ears were intact and responding well. his left ear can hear sounds and tones all frequencies, pitches but only at 50-60 decibels. That's about the level of human conversation in a quiet room. His right ear is perfect. In fact I think he can hear better than us. There was once at a noisy shopping mall, I was asking him a question. I thought he couldn't hear me, but he actually gave me an answer and I could hardly hear him!

Next up in February 2009, Matthew has to be admitted into Day Surgery Ward for a CT scan. He has to be sedated for the scan. Hopefully this time round it would be much easier experience for me compared to the last time.
