Hong Kong - Day 4

We wanted to make Day 4 an easy day. The itinerary was Lantau Island and Tung Chung shopping. As usual, the kids woke up early. We headed over the Maxim fast-food style Cha Chan Teng opposite our hotel for breakfast. we then took MTR from TST to Tung Chung via Lai King, to take the NP360 cable car to see the big buddha...

We were early and there was no queue (strange for a saturday), so we had the whole cabin to ourselves.

>> This was another cool (not cold), misty morning. This was all we could see ahead of us from the cable car.

>> From this point, we were supposed to be able to see the big buddha, but too misty...

We made our way through Ngong Ping Village to the foot of the buddha hill. We bought our tickets, which included a simple vegetarian meal at Po Lin Monastery. Then we proceeded to make our way up to the top. At first I was quite hesitant about going up, because I was worried about having to carry the kids half way up. Surprisingly, Matthew was quite cooperative and walked all the way up. Mike carried Jo all the way.

>> This shot was taken on Step 133 (thereabout), Matthew counted his way up, which was about 240 steps or so. We got mixed up after a while.

We went round the buddha and under it to look at the exhibits (which the kids were obviously not interested in), then made our way down for lunch.

>> still misty..

>> Vegetarian lunch at Po Lin Monastery >> After lunch, outside the restaurant >> Walking back to take cable car, finally we saw the big buddha from the foot of the hill

Photobucket
>> Can you see how "steep" the ride was? it was fun though.

Upon reaching Tung Chung, we made our way to Citygate, which has many factory outlets under one roof. The most important task was to buy Jo a new pair of shoes! The pair Jo wore to HK was opening up and after a few days of walking, it was "gone" case. We love New Balance. We found both Matthew and Joanne new shoes from NB outlet. The NB outlet in IMM did not carry as many designs for kids and Matthew actually took quite a while to decide. In fact, after he couldn't decide, we went to Addidas, Nike and Converse outlets and we found all too trendy to be sports shoes. Eventually we still ended up at NB. :)

>> Jo kept the salesman amused, kept saying "my? new shoes?" >> With her shopping! wearing her new shoes.

Terrible Joanne pooed in her pants 2x! We had to throw away her pants and bought her new pants from Giordano. After walking around, I decided that I didn't want to buy anything and we went up to a shop on the 3rd level called Michael's and it had all Thomas the Tank Engine toys, accessories there. Mike went off to shop around and he brought 2 polo shirts from Timberland outlet.

No photos after this.. :p somehow I didn't flash my camera to take photos...

We made our way to Hong Kong MTR station on the Tung Chung Line and the kids fell asleep on the way. We walked to Wellington street (via underpass to Central station exit D2) to try the famous roast goose at Yung Kee. A lot of our colleagues and friends recommended Yung Kee, though the price was quite up in the sky. It's also the place to see HK stars. In fact, Mike said a lady seeing at the next table looked very familiar. Don't ask me about stars, I watch TV, not stars. It takes me quite a while to realise if a star is near me...

We ordered a mixed mushroom vege soup, century egg, char siew and of couse the famous roast goose. The roast goose was good. Matthew like the soup. Century egg was oishi, really different from those you find here in Singapore. The char siew was not so appetising.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel, taking the ever-so-convenient MTR. The kids had an early night, while Mike and I packed to go home the next day.

Day 5... our last day in Hong Kong...

hey Susan, u know wat, u only got 1 kid, we brought 2 kids. :p basically HK is not stroller friendly, so u would need to carry ur girl most of the time if she doesn't wan to walk.

Food wise, u can also find rice and soup in most places, most cha chan teng also serve macaroni. Jo wasn't very cooperative during mealtimes, most times she was too distracted to eat. xin hua hua. also she was teething, which didn't help matters.

stay ur last nite at disneyland and end ur HK trip w a bang. fireworks is a must. fr disneyland, u can take a cab to airport, it's vv near, but i'm not sure how much it'll cost. u can always email disneyland n ask.

happy planning. :)

the basic rooms are really small, unless you go for the superior rooms. location is good. try YWCA Metropolitan next to Peninsular.
