One year in childcare

One year ago today, I enrolled her in half day (afternoon) childcare, then in full day childcare a few weeks after. Time really flies. In this one year, she has developed so much and also learned not just to care for herself, but also the other people around her.

She was weaned off her pacifier.

She learned to talk, ask for things, sing songs. In fact, she loves to talk and sing songs. HOWEVER, she sometimes simply refuses to join in the action during music class.

Her speech is a mixture of English and Mandarin. We correct her. But we find that it's really amazing for her age to be able to do that.

She is learning to colour within a confined area on a piece of paper.

She knows her numbers! Not counting, but recognising the numbers. I didn't know that till this morning, when we went for her music make-up class and asked her which room is number 3, she pointed to the correct room!

She shares. BUT she'll be very angry if the thing is taken away without asking her. She'll scream, cry and complain if Matthew takes her things without permission. If Matthew asks nicely for something, she'll definitely give him.

She helps to take care of the other kids in her toddler class. Teacher Grace calls her class monitor. :)

She learns to sit down to do some "work", like colouring or drawing, for a while only...

When she has good things, she'll make sure Matthew has one too. This evening, we celebrated Baby Ian's full month baby shower. Joanne saw the red eggs and took 2, telling us 1 for Matthew. She brought the egg to Matthew, only to realise that Matthew already had 1 egg. She then went to put the egg back in the basket and came back for her egg. When she is given sweets, she always ask for an extra one for Matthew.

We have been so amazed by how much she has learned and developed in the past year. We will continue to be surprised, I'm very sure of that. Keep them coming. Jia You Joanne!
